Michelle Davis, LMSW (she/her)
My kids and I have catchphrase in our house: “curveball”. It’s shorthand to communicate that plans have radically changed from what was expected, things are about to get difficult, and that everyone is going to have to work together to adapt and support each other. As a mom to three amazing children, two who are neurodiverse, it’s a phrase and a philosophy we have used often.
That philosophy carries over into how I approach the therapy process, as well. Curveballs totally upend our journeys, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable. I understand how important it is to have a safe, empathic space to process through these moments, balanced with pragmatic and direct skills to use in coping with them.
I earned my Master of Social Work from Andrews University in 2004, and since then have spent my career working with individuals and families from a wide variety of backgrounds coping with anxiety, depression, ADHD and ASD and PTSD. I have received intensive training and certification through the Academy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as expertise in DBT and Mindfulness based practices. In particular, I have a passion for working with neurodiverse individuals and families as well as individuals dealing with complex medical trauma and the challenges unique to those populations.
